The Americans 2x04 Promo [HD) "A Little Night Music" Recap & Review
OMG - INTENSE...
Things continue to unravel as Elizabeth & Philip investigate a possible suspect into the killing of their fellow spy family friends. Claudia is back and trying to size up and play mother at same time but as always just driving Elizabeth nuts. Claudia accuses Elizabeth of not being ready to work 100%. Elizabeth romances a Navy clerk trying to get a few files.
Philip is having trouble keep the Martha situation under control which is obvious by the end of the episode.
Paige is finding Jesus, a huge NO NO to aethists from USSR. Elizabeth is pissed!
Philip is always tracking a Jewish Scientist and recent defector. BUT When Philip and Elizabeth try to abduct, another team - most likely American tail - intervenes. Elizabeth loses it as she fights the guy. Philip stops to help but the other woman agent drives car away with scientist in the trunk.
Tough being communist spy in 1982 America, no?

How many sub plots can one episode handle?
After the death of their friends, Phillip (Matthew Rhys) and Elizabeth (Keri Russell) are looking over their shoulder. Every jogger, construction worker etc could be a bullet to the head...
So Phillip goes looking the source he met in Alexandria. He gets a shocking surprise which leads to pictured seen above....
Elizabeth, staying home with the kids, gets orders to help Nicaraguan spy with drug induced congressman....
Nina (Annet Mahendru) - ever trapped in the middle double spy - takes one for the team... AGAIN... and again... and - never mind - you get the picture...
The obsessed Agent Stan Beeman (Noah Emmerich) is becoming the biggest chump in DC history...
And the only one that seems to really be doing his job well and enjoying it? The KGB Resident (Lev Gorn). Is this Putin 30 years earlier?
Only missing? More John Boy. We need more Richard Thomas LOL

MY REVIEW
I do not know of any show that allowed to really get to know the real characters behind the spy work to this depth. Too often we fail to see the faces of the enemy behind the propaganda. Sometimes that is for the best, so we can follow orders as good little soldiers. But here are cold blooded killers just doing their job, trying to live normal lives at the same time.

This episode is bad ass!!! The way this couple navigates the world of espionage has me on the edge of my seat. And Matthew Rhys really floors me as an actors. A true chameleon, there are times I do not realize it is him under the disguises. He looks completely different with straight and afro curled hair... But far more than look, he truly becomes these characters. This series pulls no punches in its gritty take on US/USSR relations. At the time this show takes place I lived in the Suburbs of DC, so I certainly relate...

I was hooked from by first commercial break. Edgy, Sexy, Great acting, directing, writing, cast etc etc etc WATCH THIS SHOW!!!
I love the shows that make it very confusing who the good guys and bad guys are. We have protagonists and antagonists on both sides of the political lines.... And as the show progresses I am exited to see which side folks end up...
